PTO Slip Clutch Servicing
We operate a nationwide mobile clutch testing, servicing and calibration service, we also offer a clutch collection and delivery service.
All clutches are tested, serviced and calibrated on a specialist
hydraulic test rig which has a high accuracy to within 1.5%
Clutches are then returned with a self adhesive label which
should be fixed on the implement to which the clutch belongs.
The label records key service details including the date of service, overload clutch
calibration torque in Nm and next test or service due date.
Leading brands of clutch catered for Walterscheid, Comer and Bondioli & Pavesi, most clutch parts carried in stock including calibration shims for Comer W Series clutches.
PTO Overload Clutch Importance !
The important role that the PTO slip clutch plays is often overlooked in the event of a
PTO driveline breakdown. These often expensive breakdowns are usually regarded as an unfortunate occurrence or "bad luck".
The reality is that if the PTO slip clutch is properly maintained, it will protect all components in the PTO driveline including the tractor transmission and the implement gearboxes in the event of a machine blockage or obstruction.
PTO Overload Clutch Service Intervals as recomended by manufacturers.
Friction Clutches can seize or go over their recomended torque limit when not in use and should be serviced once every year, 1 - 2 months before the start of the working season.
Cam Cut Out Clutches can seize or go over their torque limit, when the special anti friction grease which lubricates them breaks down and loses its properties. Cam clutches should be tested once every year and serviced once every two years.
PTO Torque Graph
The graph above shows the torque values of tractor PTO output shafts at 1000rpm and maximum torque loads.
A seized pto slip clutch will transmit unlimited torque loads throughout the PTO driveline and tractor transmission, well in excess off their maximum torque capabilities resulting in mechanical wear and expensive breakdowns.
A well maintained and serviced PTO slip clutch will give reliable machine protection, reduce downtime, reduce repair bills, and reduce insurance claims !
Operating machinery in the field with an unserviced or untested PTO slip clutch, could have the same concequences as running a machine with a direct drive shaft and no PTO slip clutch at all !
If you are experiencing issues with your machinery such as gearbox failure, broken drive chains, sheared drive shafts, tractor pto clutch slipping, tractor engine stalling while operating implements and other such mechanical problems, the likleyhood is that your PTO slip clutch is out of calibration or seized.
Contact us if you are experiencing any of these problems and before an expensive breakdown does occour !

PTO Overload Protection Clutch Introduction
When agricultural machinery manufacturers fit a PTO overload clutch to their implements and equipment, they take into account the maximum torque that the PTO driveline can handle on that piece of equipment including gearboxes, shafts, chains and sprockets.
For example ( maximum gearbox torque rating 2000Nm )
The manufacturer will then fit a PTO overload clutch to the implement with a slightly lower
torque rating, thereby ensuring that the maximum gearbox torque rating is not exceeded in the event of a machine blockage or obstruction.
There are generaly two types of PTO overload clutch, a cam cut out clutch and a friction disc torque limiting clutch, commonly all refered to as "PTO Slip Clutches".
